On Sept. 19, 2020, AWCCI – East Zone Office met the newly appointed Nangarhar Governor, Mr. Zia-ul-Haq Amarkhil. Ms. Jamila Sadat, Chair of AWCCI East Zone, and Ms. Khatira Niamaty, AWCCI East Zone Manager talked on the following issues and proposed recommendations:
- During the COVID19 pandemic and lockdown, women enterprises were not operating and they have been fined by the Directorate of Finance for not clearing or paying their taxes and submitting the tax reports on time. The tax penalty is an amount women businesses cannot afford to pay after winter, which is a season of slow operations and after that COVID19 lockdown. AWCCI proposes the tax penalties to be
- The industrial parks are far from the city and women businesses cannot operate there. Women businesses are in light industries and cannot operate in industrial parks close to or inside the city. Based on the decree and decision of a VTC with the President of Afghanistan, women should be allocated land for women’s industrial parks close to or inside the city. Some progress had already been made through the Nangarhar Governor Office and the Directorate of Urban Development and Land. AWCCI requested the newly appointed Governor to pay attention to this vital matter.
- Women businesses’ access to national and international exhibitions by providing more chance and participation.
- Women businesses should be supported by donor agencies, projects, and programs to grow and expand their businesses.
