Ms. Parwarish Oryakhail, the Director of Business Development Services of AWCCI participated in the 7th Foundation Day of Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC) in India. The program had two main parts. One was visit to different incubation centers (CIAB, NABI, NIFTEM) and the other was the 7th Foundation Day itself where a special session was organized for country representatives of SAWDF. The program lasted for 3 days, March 18, 19 and 20, 2019.
The Department of Biotechnology, Government of India and BIRAC very recently supported the Women Entrepreneurs’ network of Meghalaya in setting up their units through the Industrial Parks with a focus on agro processing and food processing. BIRAC is interested to support a similar concept with the SAWDF working counterparts, with an observation visit to Maghalaya, in the near future.
There was a special session for the SAWDF representatives to explore what assistance can be extended by BIRAC and to assess the needs of the women representatives from the SAWDF countries. The delegation visited the Center of Innovative and Applied Bioprocessing (CIAB) and National Agri-Food Biotechnology Institute (NABI) in Mohali (near Chandigarh), Punjab set up by Department of Biotechnology, Government of India on March 18, 2019. Another visit organized for the SAWDF delegates from these countries was to the National Institute of Food Technology, Entrepreneurship Development and Management (NIFTEM) in Sonepat which is a leading institution in the field of food processing in India on March 19, 2019.
BIRAC promotes Women Entrepreneurship through several support mechanisms that includes creation of opportunities through Accelerator programs, Incubation innovation Biotech Ecosystem facilities and networking with complementary organizations. These opportunities and network are extended through this invite to Women Entrepreneurs who are members of the South Asian Women Development Forum (SAWDF) to partner and harness synergies with BIRAC as a knowledge partner.
BIRAC is willing to provide technical assistance to the women entrepreneurs in establishing Women Industrial Park. Each country representation of SAWDF delivered a 5-10 mins talk on need assessment and road map creation of industrial park concept and other assistance to these Countries by BIRAC on March 20th during the Special session on Women Entrepreneurship “Biotech powered Women entrepreneurs creating Regional and Global solutions: Vigyan Se Vikas”. The special session was followed by a one hour round table discussion with Secretary of Bio Technology Ministry.
Ms. Parwarish Oryakhail interacted with the officials of CIAB, NABI, NIFTEM and BIRAC on seeking their assistance to Afghanistan in research and incubation of Afghan young generation and women entrepreneurs while working with AWCCI, research institutes, universities, ministries and other relevant bodies. She highlighted the establishment of Green Industrial Park for women in Afghanistan by the technical support of BIRAC. It is worth mentioning that AWCCI visited Women’s Industrial Park in Hyderabad through ALEAP by the generous support of UNWOMEN and developed a business plan for establishing women’s industrial parks in Afghanistan. She presented Afghanistan’s beautiful imagine to India and the development that has been made so far. She mentioned that Afghanistan lags behind in Biotechnology and is in dire need of progress in this sector as Afghanistan is an agricultural country and is famous for the Dry Fruits, Nuts, Saffron, Carpets, Rugs, Handicrafts, Gems and Jewelry which are the major export commodities and they add to the economic prosperity of Afghanistan.
