AWCCI is one of Implementing Agencies (IAs) of Networking and Capacity Building of Women Entrepreneurs of SAARC Countries (NCBWESC) which is a project of SAARC Development Fund (SDF). Ms. Parwarish Oryakhail, the Vice-President of AWCCI, is the Project Coordinator and Ms. Zainab Yousufi, the Research Officer of AWCCI, is the Data Entry Operator of the named project.

Ms. Oryakhail and Ms. Yousufi participated in the two day Consultative Meeting of NCBWESC organized by Pakistan Scientific and Technological Information Center (PASTIC) on March 10 and 11, 2020 in Islamabad, Pakistan. PASTIC was responsible for developing the Women Entrepreneurs Portal, and raising awareness and training women entrepreneurs of SAARC IAs including Afghanistan on WE Portal.

The purpose of the meeting was to know about the country plan or proposal for Portal’s future sustainability including future role, responsibilities of IAs (the respective organizations) for:

  • Awareness and Promotion of “SAARC WE Portal”among the women entrepreneurs
  • Uploading business information of Women SMEs on Portal
  • Providing Women SMEs activities information to PASTIC for promotion on portal through Newsletter

AWCCI will train some women on the WE Portal (ToT) in order to continue raising awareness, promoting, and training women on the portal after the end of the project.

Ms. Oryakhail stated that AWCCI has 1428 Afghan women-owned businesses registered in its Database and has entered the data on 301 women businesses. AWCCI will keep adding data on more Afghan women businesses in the WE Portal.

The Project Coordinators of IAs agreed to feed PASTIC with the news on the activities of women SMEs for the newsletter. The Project Coordinators of NCBWESC project from Bangladesh, Mr. Pujesh Datta, and Bhutan, Mr. Jigme Thinley, also participated in this 2-Day Consultative Meeting. The Project Coordinators and the Data Entry Operator received hands-on training on WE Portal and were presented Project Shields at the end of the program.

This was a good opportunity for AWCCI to discuss the option for native languages of each country for the WE Portal, the awareness and training sessions for Afghan Women businesses planned for April 2020, and the challenges in the project.

AWCCI is grateful to PASTIC for organizing the meeting to discuss the project sustainability and for their warm hospitality.
