Celebration of World Intellectual Property Day through Launch of “Made by Afghan Women” Trademark and Creative Industries Project

Ministry of Industry and Commerce and Afghanistan Women Chamber of Commerce and Industries (AWCCI) celebrated World Intellectual Property Day through Launch of “Made by Afghan Women” Trademark and Creative Industries Project on May 13, 2018 at the Government Media and Information Center.

In this program H.E. Rula Ghani First Lady of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, official of Ministry of Industry and Commerce; Ms. Kamila Sediqi Deputy for Trade Affairs, Mr. Feroz Khan Masjidi, the Deputy Minister for Private Sector and Industries Development, Mr. Tariq Ahmad Sarfaraz, Director General of Afghanistan Central Business Registry and Intellectual Property, H.E. Dilbar Nazari, Minister of Women Affairs, Mr. Laluddin Aryobi, Deputy Minister of Finance and Administration Ministry of Labor, Social Affairs, Martyrs and Disabled (MoLSAMD), Ms. Amina Ahmadi, Director of Medium Taxpayers Directorate Ministry of Finance, Ms. Manizha Wafeq, President of AWCCI, members of AWCCI, International partners, and number of women entrepreneur participated.

The Master of Ceremony were Ms. Parwarsih Oryakhail, Director of Business Development Services (AWCCI) and Mr. Musafir Qoqandi, Director of Information and Public Communications (MoIC).

The program started by the recitation of few verses of Holy Quran. The welcome remarks were presented by Ms. Manizha Wafeq. She expressed in her speech that the theme for the World Intellectual Property Day this year is “Afghan Women empowering”. We wanted that Afghan women products receive a recognition in international market and in collaboration with Ministry of Industry and Commerce worked on the trademark and as the result of that, today we are going to launch it “Made by Afghan Women”. Ms. Wafeq thanked MoIC and its staff for the great collaboration between AWCCI and MoIC. She added in her speech that women that hold high seats in government, are always cooperative with women for example, Ms. Adela Raz in Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Acting Minister of Mines and Petroleum, Ms. Nargis Nehan, Ms. Dilbar Nazari Minister of Women Affairs, Ms. Kamila Sediqi in Ministry of Industry and Commerce, Ms. Nahid Sorahbi in Ministry of Finance and other same like them is the result that the role of women cannot be ignored.

Ms. Wafeq also requested from the First Lady to convey her message to the president that appointing women in government high positions provide the opportunity of not forgetting women role in the society.

In the next section, The First Lady of Afghanistan, H.E. Rula Ghani presented her speech. She said that today is a historic day that we launch trademark “Made by Afghan Women” through which women products will be exported to the countries outside with this mark. She congratulated all the women for the launch of this trademark and said that it’s really a pleasure that today we have AWCCI’s chapters in zones; North, South, East and West that provides opportunities of markets to women and brings facilities to women businesses. Having seat at High Economic Council is another great achievements for AWCCI. She thanked Ms. Manizha Wafeq and the team for their hard work. She also expressed that, the trips I have to the foreign countries I can proudly said that in Afghanistan we have Women Chamber of Commerce; that women unified and established it by their own efforts.

Ms. Dilbar Nazari, Minister of Women Affairs, also expressed her gratitude for the launch of the trademark and thanked from the leadership of AWCCI and MoIC. Ms. Nazari showed her hope that women can take advantages of the opportunities and by the use of this trademark, will find place in international markets for their products, and avoid Afghan products counterfeit. Ms. Nazari also explained plans of Ministry of Women Affairs of empowering women program and handicrafts.

In the next section, Mr. Feroz Khan Masjidi, the Deputy Minister for Private Sector and Industries Development presented his speech. Mr. Masjidi said that the launch of trademark which is held by the cooperation of MoIC and AWCCI; the trademark will be promoted through various platform such as conferences, Seminars, Government Websites and other programs. He added for the finalization of this trademark, several meetings held with public and private sectors and eventually the mark finalized by economic cycle by golden color in three languages Dari, Pashto and English. Mr. Masjidi thanked the First Lady and Ms. Manizha Wafeq with team for always being supportive and collaborating with MoIC.

Consequently, the Deputy Minister for Trade Affairs of MoIC, Ms. Kamila Sediqi presented her speech. She thanked the President of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan (Mr. Ghani) and the First Lady of Afghanistan (Mrs. Rula Ghani) for supporting women and added that for the launch of this program great collaboration took place between MoIC and AWCCI. Ms. Sediqi also said that for the implementation and promotion of this trademark specific plan will be implemented by AWCCI and MoIC.

In his speech, Mr. Laluddin Aryobi, Deputy Minister of Finance and Administration Ministry of Labor, Social Affairs, Martyrs and Disabled (MoLSAMD), congratulated the launch of trademark Made by Afghan Women and added that afterwards women products and goods will be delivered by specific mark to worlds market. Mr. Aryobi also talked about (MoLSAMD) plans for the economic development of women in this Ministry.

In the last session of program awards presented to the most creative and innovative women industrialists and service providers they are, Ms. Mohsina saqib in Designing Cloths, Ms. Homira Kohzad in Training of Cleaners and Finding jobs for them, Ms. Samira Sarwar for establishing Apple Vinegar factory, Ms. Nahid Hamidi for the establishment of Gemstone Mill and Fouzia Amin for creating beauty and health complex for women also awards presented to three best Women of “Bazar-e-Roz”, they are; Ms. Roya Hafizi best Marketer, Ms. Nazifa Jalali best Innovator and Ms. Maryam Zamani best Seller.
