Afghanistan Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry West Zone – Herat office participated in a meeting with Mercy Corps Program Officer on 1st Nov 2018. In this meeting Mr. Zia Ul Haq Munsef, Program Officer of Mercy Corps organization, Ms. Maryam jami Ul Ahmadi, Chair of AWCCI West Zone Board of Directors and Ms. Nasim Gul Azizi, Zone Manager of AWCCI- Herat participated. The purpose of meeting was to know the programs of Mercy Corps programs and introducing AWCCI- West Zone for them.
Mercy Corps is an international Organization which implements humanitarian programs in 42 countries and implements global supports. This organization works in different sectors such as Agriculture, Energy, Youth skills development and Small Enterprises for women. Mercy Corps started its work from 1986 in Afghanistan and 7 months ago in Herat province. It works to create jobs in Nangarhar and Herat provinces, they identified new professions based on market need them they selected 26 profession out of it and announced it for men and women. At the end, the Four skills with more demand in Shahrake Shuhada, Naw Abad, Karizak, Puli Rangina, Jebrel, Naw Badam, Robat Kabuli areas of Herat province, will be identifies for providing vocational training there. These vocational skills included (Professional tailoring, motor cycle repairing, vehicle repairing, food processing and preservation, restaurant management, plumbing, mobile repairing, fish breeding, carpet waving, photography, air condition and refrigerator repairing, MDF industries). Participants will receive toolkits, certificates and support after graduating from 6 months of vocational training.
In this meeting AWCCI- West Zone promised to cooperate for introducing women to get membership of AWCCI and trainers for vocational training, support and encouraging women after the vocational training program. Mercy Corps representative also promised their cooperation and collaboration with AWCCI for marketing of women products and taking part for holding exhibitions and capacity building programs for their vocational trainings graduate women and other business women in the future and welcomed comments and suggestion by AWCCI for better and effective implementation of their programs.
