A joint Event for celebrating International Women’s Day and Nawroz Bazaar launched in collaboration by Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MRRD)-Afghanistan Rural Enterprise Development Program (AREDP), Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI), The Women’s Center (TWC) of American University of Afghanistan (AUAF) and Afghanistan Women’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry (AWCCI) at Bagh-e-Babur for 3 days. In this program dignitaries from government organization such as H.E. Mr. Mujeeb Rahman Karimi (MRRD), H.E. Deputy Minister Nabila Musleh Deputy Minister of Women’s Affair (MoWA), Export Promotion Director Ms. Elaha Shahin (MoCI), Executive Director (TWC) Ms. Nadia Behboodi, President and one of Founder of AWCCI Ms. Manizha Wafeq, entrepreneurs and media participated.
The program started by the recitation of Holy Quran and playing National Anthem of the country. Next Mr. Mujeeb Rahman Karimi (MRRD) welcomed all the participants and briefed that in today Nawroz Bazaar exhibition 130 women businesses participated, 80 of which are from rural areas and 50 others are from Kabul. H.E. also stated that the basic aim from holding such exhibitions are to provide opportunities for women businesses. The Ministry of (MRRD) always attempt to provide markets for their products nationwide and outside of the country and support to develop their economic.
H.E. Ms. Nabila Muslih stated that this is really great collaboration between MRRD, MoCI, TWC and AWCCI and hope MoWA also become part of this collaboration in next time. She added Women has important role in economic development of the country and we must provide secure job place for women. Through these exhibition we will have to see the direct involvement of women in economic growth of the country. She also said to focus on providing education facilities for women, nationwide market for their products, open gateway of women markets for men, connection between city and rural areas.
Ms. Elaha Shahin stated that it’s really pleasure that we are all together and working to have great achievement. Directorate of Export Promotion of MoCI works to connect you with markets in the world. Also we are working on branding strategy. MoCI working on trademark for women to introduce their products to whole world by their own name (Made by Afghan Woman).
Ms. Nadia Behboodi also emphasized economic empowerment of Afghan Women and the importance of their role in economic development of the country. She said although women faced many problems in their work as insecurity, harassment and else but they go ahead and work hard.
Ms. Manizha Wafeq stated about women’s role in the private sector. She said, it has been four years that we are active as LEAD and one year that we became as Women Chamber (AWCCI). In collaboration with MRRD we launched campaign for women businesses. Afghan women are the economic activist of country. They are working hard in economic sector but they not shown and we will try to show all of their activities in economic sector and make them their own business owner. We have big achievement and signed MoU with National Procurement Authority that they will give 5% preference to women contracts. We also have singed number of MoUs with Government and Non-Government Organizations such as, Afghanistan National Standards Authority (ANSA), Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock (MAIL), Department of Handicraft, Ministry of Commerce, Kabul Municipality, Afghanistan International Bank and Roshan Telecommunication Company. Kabul Municipality agreed to have permanent Juma Bazar in both Parks of first and third Macroroyan, this Juma Bazaar will be based on each provinces like Juma Bazaar of Parwan, Nangarhar, Herat, Mazar, Logar, etc.
After that the Event Inaugurated by H.E. Minister Mujeeb Rahman Karimi, Ms. Nabila Muslih, Ms. Elaha Shahin, Ms. Manizha Wafeq, entrepreneurs and media, they all prayed for the prosperity of the country.
20 Women Entrepreneur who holds membership of AWCCI also exhibited their products in this exhibition. They were enjoying having great sales on these days.
Ms. Parwarish Oryakhail Business Development Services Director of AWCCI and Ms. Freshta Sarwari one of AWCCI Board member facilitated session on Business Match Making between women businesses. The purpose of business match making was introduction of women businesses and their products to each other’s. Also to make business linkages among them.
