The SAARC Chamber of Women Entrepreneurs Council (SCWEC) handover ceremony from Sri Lanka to Afghanistan held in Colombo, Sri Lanka on October 18, 2019. In this ceremony dignitaries from government and private sector such as Mr. Mohammad Ashraf Haidari, Afghanistan Ambassador to Sri Lanka; Ms. Afsana Rahimi, Chair of AWCCI; Mr. Khairuddin Mayel, Trade Vice Chair of Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment; Ms. Habiba Payendanik, Business services Vice Chair of AWCCI and Ambassadors of other SAARC countries participated.
South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) has a Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The secretariat of the SAARC CCI is in Pakistan, Islam Abad. SAARC CCI country chapters introduce executive committee members to SAARC CCI every year. Under SAARC CCI various council are established. One of the councils is SAARC CCI Women Entrepreneurs Council (SCWEC) which was established 15 years ago. The secretariat of these councils are on 2 years’ rotation basis to each SAARC country. Afghanistan has never taken the leadership of this council as there was no organization to do so. Lastly SCWEC leadership was with Sri Lankan Women’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry which was hand over to them in May 2017. Alphabetically this is Afghanistan’s turn to receive SCWEC’s secretariat.
In this ceremony Mr. Mohammad Ashraf Haidari in his speech announced their support to Afsana Rahimi, SCWEC Chair.
Currently AWCCI as the secretariat of SCWEC for two years has plans not only for businesswomen of Afghanistan but also the businesswomen of region.
